Faith/Void Split
Those who know me well know that I love The Faith. Easily one of my favorite harDCore bands; actually, I think they are the best connection between the first and second waves of hardcore in DC. You’re X’d is one of my favorite Straight Edge songs. Seriously: if you defend them you’re no better.
I’m not a super huge fan of the Void side of this split. There is something in the production that is lacking from their demos, which are some of the most primal, ugly, hardcore ever created.

Deep Wound
I think I got this ad from Cooch awhile back, but man Deep Wound are incredible. I actually heard them first from a grunge kid in tenth grade. We were tape trading (I was turning him on to Black Flag and some NYHC) and he had copied me a Melvins album and some random Dinosaur Jr. songs. At the end he had a note saying that Dinosaur Jr. had a hardcore band, you’ll love it. Boy did I ever! Deep Wound are like Die Kreuzen and Void, only faster. In My Room, especially the mosh part, really foreshadows bands like Youth of Today and Bold.

Rites Of Spring
It’s the time of year when the Rites Of Spring records end up on my mp3 player for most of the season. Out of all the Revolution Summer bands, most of whom don’t hold up so well, these guys are my favorite. In the fall of 2002 I think the only bands I listened to were Discharge and Rites Of Spring.
I first heard Rites of Spring in late 94/early 95. We used to raid a friend’s older brother’s record collection to dub his vinyl (remember kids, back before file sharing and mp3 blogs, etc) and one of those tapes ended up being Slapshot’s Back On The Map, a couple other random singles from stupid bands, and the Rites Of Spring ep. I ended up going back a few weeks later for the LP too.
