Schism Records/Fanzine
Schism is the Straight Edge fanzine of the late eighties in many circles. It’s a fine fanzine for sure, but I like other fanzines like Boiling Point and Common Sense a lot more.
Record wise, I can’t stand Wide Awake. After the excellent intro it is really, really, boring. Judge is great, but after the mind blowing first two songs the rest doesn’t hold up as well (especially the cruddy Blitz cover…one of my favorite bands). I like a lot of other 88 era Straight Edge bands more: Confront, Brotherhood, No For An Answer, Enuf, etc.
This may be controversial, but I like the 12″ version of Can’t Close My Eyes more than the 7″. There are extra songs and the mix is a lot thicker. Of course, the Project X record is already out of print.
I wonder who was going to be on the sampler?
