Half Off-Who Writes Your Rules?
Half Off are a band I liked a lot when I got into hardcore, but has not held up very well. Their ideas are fine, but the implementation of them on the records is hit or miss. That said, their second demo, the one advertised in this ad, is probably their best material. I really prefer Haywire, the band most of Half Off would morph into later on. Check out their Private Hell album. Pretty raging stuff in the vein of Bl’ast!, Melvins, etc.

Bl’ast!, SST’s Newest Recruit
This ad for Santa Cruz features Bl’ast! (SST’s newest recruit!). In the past ten years or so this has become an iconic image on the Internet. I love the juxtoposition of the band and the skater above them. Also, it certainly helps that the band is raging away. Bl’ast! are one of the best bands ever.

No Answers Fanzine
I’m not a huge fan of Kent McLard (see Hardware Fanzine and his comments in recent years about cats) but No Answers was a decent fanzine. Some of the later issues get pretty “emo” and grating, but a lot of people go through those kinds of phases. Kent did do some good interviews over the years for sure.
