Black Flag Live 84 (Kira Is The Dreamiest Lady Ever)
First off: Kira…sigh…
Live 84 was a game changer for me. I got out of high school and, about a year later, was really out of the Straight Edge/youth crew stuff and heading more towards SST bands and bands like Burn, Absolution, Die Kreuzen, etc who were less straight forward. A friend gave me a copy of this record (on tape!) and it blew my mind. I finally got the later Black Flag stuff (which I listen to a lot more than the early records) and listened to it constantly.
The 1984 version of Black Flag is one of the most powerful musical forces to ever exist. Up there with Black Sabbath, some of John Coltrane’s classic groups, etc. So tight, ferocious, and a great mixture of older songs and the newer material. Process Of Weeding Out into Nervous Breakdown? It doesn’t get much better than that.
The best part is that there are a lot of live tapes from the 84 tours that are even better…

Another cool Black Flag mailer. This is for the 1986 tour with Gone and Painted Willie. I love Greg’s remarks about being proud of every Black Flag record. No sellout. Check out the “this will be our last tour for awhile” and discussion of sentimentality. Perhaps Greg was planning far in advance when to break up Black Flag?
